Finishing 2024 strong: making the most of the last quarter

As we enter the final stretch of 2024, it can be tempting to coast through the remaining months, waiting for a fresh start in January.

But what if we made these last three months count?

What if we finished hard, crossed off a few goals, and wrapped up the year with purpose instead of just wishing it away?

That’s what I’m focused on with something I call 1/7/30. It’s a simple but effective system:

  • 1: What can I accomplish today?
  • 7: What can I focus on and achieve this week?
  • 30: What goal can I tackle this month?

Breaking goals down like this makes them more manageable and keeps me moving forward, even on days when motivation is hard to find. Instead of waiting for New Year’s resolutions or a magic moment, I'm setting small goals that keep me in motion now.

Are You Finishing Hard or Fizzling Out?

The fourth quarter of the year has a unique energy—holidays are around the corner, schedules get busier, and the urge to push things to next year creeps in. But this season is also a powerful time to reflect on what you’ve accomplished and what still matters.

Here are a few ways you can make the most of the rest of 2024:

1. Review Your 2024 Goals

  • What have you achieved so far? Celebrate those wins!
  • What’s left unfinished, and is it worth focusing on before the year ends?
  • Are there smaller goals or steps that you could complete between now and December 31st?

2. Reset When Necessary

Maybe you started 2024 with big plans that got derailed—life happens! But that doesn’t mean you can’t pivot and accomplish something meaningful in the last quarter. Use the 1/7/30 method to focus on consistency, not perfection. You still have time.

3. Don’t Wish Away the Time

It’s easy to get caught in the cycle of “I’ll start fresh next year,” but imagine how much more satisfying it will be to step into 2025 already on a roll. You don’t need to wait for January 1st to begin something new—you can start now.

Are You Thinking About 2025 Yet?

As you work through your goals for the rest of the year, it’s also a good time to ask yourself:

  • What do you want 2025 to look like?
  • Are there things you can set in motion now that will make next year easier?
  • What habits, routines, or projects can you start small with before 2024 ends?

If you begin laying the foundation today, you’ll step into the new year with momentum, clarity, and purpose—not just the usual January motivation that fizzles by February.

Keep It Simple, Keep It Real

The power of 1/7/30 lies in its simplicity. Every day is a chance to do something meaningful, every week offers opportunities to move the needle, and every month can be a milestone. It’s about doing what you can with what you have, without overwhelming yourself with unrealistic expectations.

So, what will you do with the last quarter of 2024? Are you working to finish strong, or are your thoughts already drifting toward 2025? Share your thoughts with me—I'd love to hear how you're ending this year on a high note and what you're dreaming up for the next one.

Let’s make the most of the days ahead and end the year proud of how far we’ve come.

You’ve got this.

xx Liz
